Dropping out of NYU to pursue a full-time career in music can lead to many trying life experiences, including sleeping on couches and depending on the kindness and generosity of good pals. But newcomer Brandyn Burnette took the positive from those very situations during his leaner years and poured his personal feelings into pop jam “Thanks For Nothing” and other tracks off his aptly-titled upcoming Warner Bros. EP The Couch Surfing Chronicles.

“‘Thanks For Nothing’ was written as a happy accident,” Burnette explains to Idolator. “I was just coming off of my freshman year at NYU before leaving New York and relocating to LA, when my girlfriend at the time broke up with me. So there I was in a new city and a new start and stumbled over the bright side of the break up. I got myself through a rough time by poking fun at a shitty experience because I realized I was so much better off without her.”

Give Brandyn’s first major label single a listen below!

Brandyn sums up “Thanks For Nothing” for us with this:” In short, it started as a sad song about moving on and mid-way through I decided she wasn’t even worth the pain and thanked her instead for giving me the inspiration. What better way to celebrate being single, than with my first single?”

Well put.

“Thanks For Nothing” is out today (May 27). Brandyn’s full EP, The Couch Surfing Chronicles, will be released this fall by Warner Bros.
