‘Veronica Mars’ Makes Warhols A Little Less Dandy

Veronica_Mars.jpgYour Idolators adore the teen gumshoe show Veronica Mars, and when its season premiere was posted online earlier this week, we cleared the Killers MP3s off of our desktops and watched. No spoilers, but we do have one question: Why on earth did the powers that be decide to change up the theme song? The opening credits are still scored by the Dandy Warhols’ “We Used To Be Friends,” but the new version is a hush-hush, sassy-free take. Compare it to the original track and let us know if we’re overreacting, or if this change-up could be a harbinger of Very Special Episodes to come.

The Dandy Warhols – We Used To Be Friends [MP3, link expired]

  1. Brenda

I think they wanted to make the credits darker, to reflect the dark content of the show, but kept the Dandy Warhols song so that there’d be some continuity with the earlier, peppier, more pastel-coloured credits.

  2. deltron

How 21 Jumpstreet of them. Absolutely awful change.

  3. rockwillnotdie

    Watered down much?

  4. Ēl Bunchö!

I thought the Rob Thomas who created the show WAS the same one from Matchbox 20.

Which one supposedly slept with Tom Cruise?

  5. MarsFanatic

Creator Rob Thomas told a Blogger press conference the reason for changing the theme song, you can check out the answer here.

  6. Brian Raftery

    They have Blogger press conferences?

  7. Maura Johnston

i thought those were referred to as ‘mass e-mails.’

  8. GobiasMars

Rob Thomas of Matchbox 20 allegedly bedded Mr. Smile.

The opening credits are officially ruined. Smells Like Corporate Spirit to me.
