Idolator [Hearts] The Exploding Hearts

Oct 17th, 2006 // 6 Comments

hearts.jpgThere are only a handful of bands that your Idolators believe to be completely infallible, and the Exploding Hearts are one of them. Even though three of the band members were killed in a 2003 auto crash, their Guitar Romantic album–a power-pop pièce de resistance–attracts new fans every year; in fact, the band’s posthumous following is so widespread, it helped spur the release of this month’s Shattered, a long-promised odds-and-sods compilation. Two of our favorite Shattered tracks are below, and we implore you to head over to Dirtnap Records and pick up both albums, both of which will become go-to “Everybody’s gotta have this” holiday presents for years to come.

  1. Riley

three of them died in a car crash?

  2. Brian Raftery

Sadly, it’s true. Their tour van flipped:

As for the Nice Boys-I love that record. We posted one of their songs on the launch date, so I’m waiting a few more weeks before we go crazy about them again.

  3. misterciscopike

This seems like an appropriate time to remember the singer of For Squirrels.

  4. h. ross piroshky

i remember hearing the news on KEXP. so awful.

  5. Spiny Norman

Listening to this just got me back on one of my old desperate faves: Stiff Little Fingers. They came out of Ireland right when U2 was happening and for some inexplicable reason just faded instead of pounding Bono into pudding. Go figure. For power pop, these guys are as good as it gets.
(Except for Dwight Twilley sometimes and 20/20…I know, last week.)

  6. Can’t wait to get this! I can feel a pretend heart attack coming so I can stay home from work and blow my day playing this.
