This weekend, we picked up the import-only comp 7″ Up!, a collection of rare British post-punk songs from the ’80s. There are a handful of Thatcher-era round-ups on the market these days, but Up! is a lean overview of this tinny, poppy sound, without which Franz Ferdinand would still just be another world war-instigating foreign assassinatee. Three of our favorite tracks are below, but this one is worth the slightly higher-than-average sticker price:

The Monochrome Set – Eine Symphonie Des Grauens [MP3, link expired] Henry Badowski – Making Love With My Wife [MP3, link expired] Weekend – Drumbeat For Baby [MP3, link expired] Crippled Dick Hot Wax [Official Site]
