The all-female UK quartet the Mo-Dettes had a slim, slightly spotty output, but their first, self-released single, “White Mice,” remains one of that era’s finest pure pop achievements–thanks in large part to the way the song ties together lead singer Ramona Carlier’s Swiss-accented mocking (“Don’t be stupid, don’t be limp / No girl likes to love a wimp”) and a backing “ooh-ahh” chorus that’s straight out of ’60s girl-group land.
