R & B singer Cherrelle, nee Cheryl Newton, had a string of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis-shepherded hits, and we’ve been spinning two of her mid-80s tracks around the Idolator flophouse today. “I Didn’t Mean To Turn You On” is so stellar, its listenability remained intact even after a featured role in the floptastic Glitter, while “Saturday Love,” her duet with Minneapolis crooner Alexander O’Neal, is wistful and sexy.
