The Vault: The Shockingly Relevant Sound Of Shocking Blue

They may look like extras from the 1971-1972 season of General Hospital, but Dutch rock outfit Shocking Blue were one of the most reliable pop-psych singles acts of the Nixon era. And even though they’ll forever be best known for “Venus”–later used to propel Bananarama to a brief bananarelevance–their greatest-hits compilations are heavy on big-vocal, big-hook gems. Two of our favorites below. including the shooby-doowah anthem “Inkpot” and the Neko Case-beloved “Send Me A Postcard.”
