New Smashing Pumpkins Album: It Might Just Be A Teensy Bit Pretentious

Nov 21st, 2006 // 7 Comments

More from MySpace-loving Smashing Pumpkins drummer Jimmy Chamberlin, via Billboard:

Last week, [Chamberlin] chronicled a “magnificent guitar symphony” from Billy Corgan featuring “eight guitars resonating in one big harmonic handshake. It is still ringing in my ears this morning.”

His posts carefully worded to avoid any mention of song titles or acknowledgement of who, if anybody, is working with he and Corgan in the studio, Chamberlin has also thanked “the Grateful Dead, Rush [and] Billy Thorpe for their guidance in this hour of need.”

So: A guitar symphony, Grateful Dead influences, and probably some sort of Courtney Love cameo. This is truly the album that has everything–save for a title.

I only voted for “Gluttonous Guitar Stiles” because the image of Billy Corgan saying it in a British accent is too hilarious to overlook.

When I hear “Guitar Symphony” I am reminded of Extreme III: Three Sides of Every Story…and that isnt really a good thing…once you get past “Cupid’s Dead” and the horrible early 90′s white guy rap, that record comes off the rails in a hurry…

Now if Geddy Lee makes an appearance on this record it might be worth checking out…

Corgan has always been interesting to me as a guitarist…having seen old footage of him in his parents basement (some before they were stars thing on VH1), he was a teenage shredder in the Yngwie Malmsteen vein at one point…that ability would come out from time to time, but overall he tempered it fairly well…

Is it just me, or is Billy looking like Sinead O’Connor before a big date (or after, if you consider the possibility of two black eyes from the poor guy that actually tried to date her)?

  5. Doctor Lingerie

Corgan will select the title in time the old-fashioned way: By repeatedly typing utter jibberish into the search bar on dictionary.com, thereby stringing together the worst non-sequitur imaginable.

Watch: Poke Sleeve and the Jus Cogens of Earthen Skies.

Genius, Corgan. I missed you so.

OK, so the “Let It Come Down” option is FUNNY.
