As Heard On TV: Anthony Hamilton Listens In On “The Wire”

hamilton.jpgOur meager collection of regular readers know that we’ll make any excuse to mention HBO’s The Wire, a.k.a. The Greatest Show In The World, And Possibly The Most Amazing Thing To Happen In Popular Culture In Twenty Years (Except For Some Really Good Books). Anyway, last night featured a brief but memorable fast-food-joint back-and-forth between MccNulty and one of the corner’s regulars, scored by Anthony Hamilton’s fantastic 2003 slow jam “Comin’ From Where I’m From.” For anyone who wants to re-enact that scene–or who needs an excuse to investigate Hamilton’s overlooked oeuvre further–we’ve included an MP3 of “Comin’.”

That was a great scene, and the song was perfect for it.

My favorite though was when Lester went to the original Wiretap office, and was looking through all the old files from past cases. He was told he was to head up the reopened Major Crimes unit & could pick his team, and when he went in there, it felt like everything was right in the world. Now he could get back to doing something worth a damn. I wish there were more than 2 more episodes.

That scene = goosebumps. I’m getting ready to watch seasons 1 through 3 all over again, and that sequence got me pumped (and I never use words like “pumped”).

Great song. Great, great show. Already looking forward to the next season. Thanks.

I first heard this song when Lupe Fiasco did a remix and teared it up. Everyone should look out for it.
