“Time Out New York” Runs The Numbers On NYC Music Writers
This week’s issue of Time Out New York broke down New York City’s critics, Zagat-style: A few music experts scored each writer on five categories (knowledge, style, taste, accessibilty, and influence), and the composite scores were complemented by bits of chatter from the voters. Topping the pop critic list was the New Yorker‘s Sasha Frere-Jones, who was cited for his “knowledge and panache”; the lowliest was New York Post lifer Dan Aquilante, who was described with the potshot, “If he doesn’t like it, I’ll buy it”–the music-writers’ equivalent of a Pitchfork 0.0. We just wish there were more comments included in the rundown–does writing about writing have to be subject to shrinking word counts, too? (And is there really only one woman in all of New York City worthy of inclusion on the list?)
