Lou Reed Frantically Trying To Set Up PayPal Account

Dec 11th, 2006 // 4 Comments

Earlier this month, we mentioned a rare Velvet Underground acetate–purchased for 75 cents at a Manhattan flea market–that was going up on eBay; the auction ended Friday night, and the record went for a whopping $155,401 (that’s nearly twice Lou Reed’s annual scowl-maintenance budget). The winning bidder is someone named “mechadaddy,” and according to our well-placed sources, he/she is an “excellent eBayer!!!!!!!!” who has sold tickets and SuperDiscs on the site. If you have any info as to the buyer’s identity (even though we still think it’s Lou), drop us a line at tips@idolator.com.

And if you’re looking for other eBay deals this week, might we suggest:

– A rare DVD/CD combo of Vanilla Ice’s out-of-print 1991 film Cool As Ice, a Cheever-like examination of suburban mores.
– A seemingly home-made Nickelback T-shirt.
–A collection of Aaron Neville magazine articles.

Looking at that photo, it’s a wonder why The Velvet Underground & Friends cartoon show never panned out. Pour a little sugar on me, baby.

Where will the funds from the sale of that Velvet Underground acetate go? If your answer is, “Into a stable mutual fund until the seller turns sixty-five.”, then you clearly don’t know any record collectors. If you answered, “To buy more records, of course!”, I have three words for you:

    Cup ‘O Noodles.

    Bon appetit!

My favorite Lou Reed moment of the past 10 years. And egads, who cast Don Byron?

  4. Miss Harvill

My favorite Lou Reed moment of the last twenty years. Proof that people eventually forget you ever sold out.
