The Weekend In MySpace Hacks: Poetry Slams And Top 8 Tenacity

Jan 15th, 2007 // 4 Comments

Two musicians had their MySpace profiles hacked over the weekend, and in the interest of reminding our readers to change their passwords to something that isn’t “myspace,” we present the highlights:

Who: Tru Life
What happened: In an apparent retailiation for the cover of this Jay-Z associate’s latest mix tape–which shows Dipset members in drag and Borat-style thongs–someone hacked Tru Life’s MySpace page with some self-hating and Jay-Z slams.
Nerd alert: Not only did Tru Life’s profile song get changed to a Jim Jones track, the hacker actually went to the trouble of changing his top friends list to include only Dipset members. Considering that Tru Life has 15,978 friends, that must have taken a long time. [via Nah Right]

Who: Silver Jews
What happened: A tipster reports: “On Friday the Silver Jews posted a bulletin on Myspace that they were having a poetry contest, and the winner got to write a song with David Berman on their next record. Turns out they got hacked and it was all a hoax, but not before fans posted like 300 poems on the comments on their Myspace page.”
Nerd alert: Undaunted by the band’s blog post saying that the contest was fake, the Silver Jews’ MySpace pals are keeping the poetry flowing:

It’s really too bad

that there’s not a poem contest

I rock at haiku

Um, there are only eight top friends per myspace profile…

  3. Maura Johnston

right. but you have to page through every friend you have in order to create a top friends list.
