Soul Jazz’s Acid – Can You Jack? chronicles the Chicago acid and experimental house scene; the two-disc set is accompanied by a thick book containing a history of the genre by dance-music historian Tim Lawrence and interviews with some of its biggest-name DJs. The first disc leads off with Maurice’s 1988 siren call “This Is Acid,” which, judging by our immediate nostalgic response to it, we must have heard countless times during our all-too-impressionable youth.
