Track Marks: How Buildings Breeding Became This Week’s Biggest Band In The World
Welcome to another edition of Track Marks, in which your Idolators perform an autopsy on the latest band burning up the MP3-blogger charts.
Artist: Buildings Breeding Hometown: Davis, California Album: Buildings Breeding, out Tuesday First blog mention: An April 2006 post on C and C Blog Factory that was the result of a MySpace friend request. The Build-Up: There wasn’t much of one, save another MySpace-occasioned post on Music Ramen earlier this month. The Dam-Break: In the last week, Cable and Tweed, Hellthy Music, and Hot Stof were among the blogs whose posts helped land Buildings Breeding in the elbo.ws top 10; fellow Californian INDIEBLOGHEAVEN was so excited about the Davis residents, he went into a Golden State frenzy. Odds of Backlash: 9-1. Who can hate on a band that started out as a phony MySpace act, then eventually turned into the real thing? Are They Worthy?: If you like the sleepy melodies, whispery vocals and shimmering guitars of mid-’90s indiepop, then yes. (Expect them to release an EP on Slumberland Records any day now.)
