Billy Corgan’s New Moniker Is Hardly Contagious

As you might have heard, the Smashing Pumpkins have a new album due in July, and they’ve finally given it a title: Zeitgeist.

Really? After years of multi-poly-syllabic titles, you guys are going to with the wimpy, one-worded Zeitgeist? We’d come to expect more from Corgan, the man who coined such gems as Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness and Machina/The Machines of God, and who originally wanted to release Adore as There’s Adore In My Head That Opens To The Stares Of My heART. Granted, our titular suggestions weren’t much better, but at least they had moxie. If this is the beginning of a more mature, scaled-back Pumpkins, count us out; we like our titles unnecessarily pompous and our flanger-pedal solos unbearably long, thank you very much.
