Despite a 53% dip in sales last week, Norah Jones’ third album, Not Too Late, remains atop the Billboard 200. Late sold 100,000 copies, which was enough to hold off American Idol‘s Chris Daughtry; Daughtry’s self-titled album sold 84,000 copies–a 17% decline, despite his song “Home” being inaugurated as the see-ya music for Idol‘s elimination nights last week.

Biggest Debuts: Apparently, there are parents out there who have no qualms about exposing their children to Hinder, as Kidz Bop 11, which features a sing-along version of the ultra-creepy “Lips Of An Angel,” debuted at No. 4, selling 75,000 copies. The top 20 also had two big Christian-rock debuts: Ex-DC Talk member tobyMac (capitalization his) entered the chart at No. 10, selling 51,000 copies of his album Portable Sounds, while Anberlin’s Cities bowed at No. 19 with 34,000 copies sold.

Biggest Slides: It’s hard to pick one plummet that was especially big, and here’s why: “Album sales are down 17.1% from last week’s total at 9.18 million units and down 17.3%% compared to the same week last year. Overall albums sales for the year are down 15.2% from the year before at 73.6 million units.” Yeesh. If only Valentine’s Day and the Grammys were every week… those numbers might be changed by as much as 1%.

Nickelback Award For Inexplicable Durability: Who knew that there were so many Akon diehards out there? Sure, his singles have been in the top 10 for weeks, but the fact that he’s selling records despite a lot of people swapping his songs online is pretty surprising, at least to us. Perhaps he can give Lily Allen and Bloc Party some tips on maintaining buzz among the legit-buyer and downloader crowds.
