The Infofilter Torrent Chart: A Quick Glance At What Those Little Bastards Are Illegally Downloading This Week

Every once in a while, we check in with Infofilter’s “Top 50 Music Torrents” list, for two reasons: 1) It provides a quick snapshot of the general public’s random, bonkers, and randomly bonkers musical preferences; and 2) it demonstrates how the music business is inching ever so closer to full-on apocalypse. Today’s list is as diverse as ever, with European-beloved catalog artists (Falco), college-dorm staples (Bob Marley), indie-rockers (Klaxons), and–for reasons we can’t quite figure out–Michael Jackson’s Blood On The Dance Floor. The top 10:

1 Top 100 HipHop R-B Billboard 02-10-07 Vol 02 Charts @224 Torrent-Tatty 2 Mika – Life In Cartoon Motion [2007][CD+SkidVid+Cov] 3 German TOP100 Single Charts 26 02 2007-MiNiSTRY [best-torrentz.6x.to] 4 [isoHunt] Akon – Konvicted (Advance) 5 Klaxons – Myths Of The Near Future [2007][CD+4 SkidVids+Cov] 6 Roger Waters – The wall, live in berlin 7 U2-U218 Singles (CD+BonusDVD5+CDBonusDVD) 8 Bloc Party – A Weekend In The City [2007][CD+SkidVid+Cov] 9 Lily Allen – Alright Still [2006][CD+3 SkidVids+Cov] 10 Mariza .-. Concerto em Lisboa

One strange twist on today’s ranking: There are only a handful of “discography” torrents, which pile an artists’ entire catalog into one massive file. Maybe the kids are feeling guilty this week? Or maybe they’ve learned the hard way that you can’t listen to 1,367 Pink Floyd songs in one sitting?
