Who Charted?: In A Dull Week, It’s Hard To Resist Making “Daughtry Is Bald” Jokes

Ho-hum, it’s that guy with the shiny, shiny head again: Thanks to a weak release schedule and placement during American Idol‘s closing montages, Chris Daughtry’s Daughtry reclaimed the No. 1 spot on last week’s Billboard 200. Daughtry sold 90,000 copies, while the No. 2 album, Norah Jones’ Not Too Late, moved 74,000 units.

Biggest Debuts: New Orleans hip-hop group B.G. and the Chopper City Boyz bowed at No. 21, selling 27,000 copies of We Got This. Note: This is probably the only time we will ever link to them from “Who Charted?,” so study up.

Biggest Slides: It’s hard to pick one, thanks to this stat from Billboard.biz: Album units, current chart week: 8.49 million units; DOWN 7.52% from last issue’s charts: 9.18 million units.

Nickelback Award For Inexplicable Durability: We’d say Daughtry, but his end-of-the-road Idol placement provides a convenient excuse for his chart domination. And really, with so many albums taking a hit this week, who can be considered “durable”? Even Akon’s not-even-1% uptick is understandable, given that he’s got a new single bouncing around the radio. So we’ll pass on this week, although we may have a new candidate making its way up the chart: the Silversun Pickups’ album jumped 38 places this week, breaking the 10,000-copies-sold mark. We’ll be keeping an eye on this, if only because we’re sick of typing out H-I-N-D-E-R.
