“Everybody’s A Wenner”: Could It Happen Again?

Yesterday, we asked you to determine whether or not the semi-beloved “Everybody’s A Wenner” franchise–in which we riff on Rolling Stone‘s review section–should remain on the site. And the results, while close, proved what we’d silently feared for weeks: It’s time for it go.

But, just like Jean Grey and the Proclaimers, it will rise again–albeit in a new, revamped form.

You see, among the many questions/complaints we get on a daily basis–“You guys aren’t funny,” “You guys post too much rapness,” “The Dagobah/Cassdaga bit in that Bright Eyes entry doesn’t work at all”–there’s one that’s oft-repeated and probably valid: “You guys spend way too much time ragging on Rolling Stone and not enough time on the other music magazines.” And they’re right.

So starting next month, we will introduce a new “Review-Section Revue,” one in which the critical gatekeepers of Rolling Stone, Blender, Vibe and Spin are all taken to task. And, to avoid any conflicts, we’ll be sub-contracting it out to an experienced, anonymous music critic. It will be like Jo Jo Dancer all over again! Well, maybe with fewer “dickless” jokes.
