Punk-Rock Drummer’s Drug Arrest Becomes True-Life Soap Opera

Apr 9th, 2007 // 16 Comments

Picture%202.pngLast week, Germs drummer Don Bolles was stopped by police in Newport Beach, Calif., for driving with a broken tail light. When police searched his van, they found a bottle of Dr. Bronner’s Peppermint Liquid Castille Soap, which sounds like a terrible ragtime-zydeco band, but which is actually a liquid soap that contains organic hemp oil. Police responded accordingly, as evidenced by a post from Bolles’ friend’s MySpace page:

If you are a good friend of Don’s, you know this is the only cleaning agent he uses for every thing from tooth paste to laundry detergent. The police ran a drug field test on the soap and it came up positive…He is being charged with a felony. His bail is $25,000. He could get up to 20 years in prison. This is very serious.

According to this Velvet Rope post, Bolles was freed this morning, though he has to return to court on Friday; here’s hoping the all-too-literal Newport Police don’t catch him with any Coke products in the time being.

oh my god i can’t stand with that “he could face 20 years in prison” in nonsense you hear every time someone gets arrested. for what? he could be caught with a ton of weed and get two years in prison in cali. 25K bail in california is just what he was booked on that night, i’m sure he was released o/r and charged with a misdemeanor.

  4. catdirt

sorry also: newport beach city cops? don’t make me laugh. those cats are clowns. law enforcement in orange county is a joke.

  5. noamjamski

@JobCain: Hey that’s just like your opinion, man.

  6. drjimmy11

    this sucks if it happened.

still not convinced it did though. the top search result on google news is the punknews.org thing, who pretty clearly took it from the myspace bulletin. And even they call it a “rumor.”

  7. drjimmy11

    hmm, getting interesting.

seems like they conveniently neglected to mention the domestic violence prior and violation of a restraining ord…

“he could face 20 years in prison”

max is one year on each of the charges listed. hyperbole much?

It did happen, I spoke with Don this morning. Apparently the Bronners people might help him out with his defense.

I’ll leave the legal analysis to you scholars.

  10. ragandboneshop

Why is the PUNK ROCKER using the HIPPIE SOAP? What has the world come to?

  11. catdirt
