Phil Spector’s Trial: After All These Years, It’s Finally Going To Happen

Apr 10th, 2007 // 2 Comments

spector.jpgOpening arguments for the Phil Spector murder trial begin in two weeks, and in case you’re sketchy on the details surrounding the 2003 death of B-movie actress Lana Clarkson, Slate‘s Timothy Noah has written up a primer on the trial that’s full of details we missed while trying to figure out how Spector kept his coif so full:

Except that examination of the body revealed that the gun barrel wasn’t placed against Clarkson’s temple. It was placed inside Clarkson’s mouth. According to a search warrant affidavit from the county police, Clarkson had “what appeared to be a single entry gunshot wound to the mouth.” “She kissed the gun,” Spector later told Esquire. “I have no idea why.”

We can’t be the only ones who cringed at that line–and as a bonus, it contradicts Spector’s earlier claim that Clarkson “took Spector’s gun, waved it over her head like a lariat, and sang ‘Da Doo Ron Ron’ and ‘You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin”” before putting the gun to her head and pulling the trigger. (Yes, really.)
