The Vault: The Maniacal Sounds Of The Bouncing Souls

Apr 13th, 2007 // 9 Comments

bouncingblah.jpgWe lost track of New Jersey’s Bouncing Souls right after our sophomore-year pop-punk phase fizzled, but the group’s first two albums–including 1996′s Maniacal Laughter–remain among the best the genre has to offer. Two tracks are below, including “Quick Check Girl,” which marks our second convenience-store reference of the week:

The Bouncing Souls – Quick Check Girl [MP3, link expired]
The Bouncing Souls – The Ballad Of Johnny X [MP3, link expired]
The Bouncing Souls [MySpace]

This was the defining moment of my 8th grade: when I saw them live at the Argo in Denton TX, Shal passed the mic to me to sing a verse of “Ballad of Johnny X.” BLISS

Best pop punk band ever. I lost interest when they started making videos.

  2. Thatgirl

They played a reunion show around New Year’s with the also-reunited Weston and Taste of Latex.

This is the best comment I have ever written.

  3. Bazooka Tooth

OH MY GOD! I haven’t heard Bouncing Souls in years! Fuck way! Them playing “here we go” from this record when they opened for NOFX when i was in 10th in grade in 95: BEST.MOSH PIT.EVER. And i don’t care if that sounds meat head. Idolator editor: PLEASE POST “HERE WE GO”! PLEASE!

  4. Brian Raftery

@tront: A Weston reunion? Seriously? Wow. We might need some more info on that.

  5. LeanOnSheena

The Gold Record was one of the best songs of 2006, seriously. They, and fat cat sandwiches, are the best things to come out of New Brunswick.

  6. pinder

if you’ve seen them live, everybody there has that glaze of pure joy

  7. pjohn

weston reunion was right after xmas at rebel
latex generation, sticks and stones (johnny-x on guitar) and weston.

i got food poisoning and projectile vomited in a garbage pail during sticks and stones.

    heard weston was good.

    bad story huh?

  8. catdirt

    wow. stunner.

  9. Thatgirl

Weston played three shows, one in Atlantic City, one in NYC, and one in PA (New Year’s Eve). They might do more, depending on schedules.
