Don’t Bring Your Tiny Baubles To Don Ho’s Memorial Service

Tomorrow’s memorial service for Don Ho–who died last month at the age of 76–is one of the biggest send-offs we’ve seen in a while: In addition to multi-channel live coverage, free parking lots and city-provided buses, mourners will be treated to a uniquely Hawaiian spectacle:

Hilton Hawaiian Village employees strung together a 76-foot lei yesterday to be draped around a double-hulled canoe during the Don Ho memorial service tomorrow. Each foot of the lei represents one year of Ho’s life.

Not quite the Aaliyah treatment, mind you, but still pretty impressive. We can only imagine what it’s going to be like when Elton kicks it (don’t get any ideas, TMZ!)
