Billboard is reporting that “the writer’s share” of Tupac Shakur’s publishing catalog has been sold by his mother, Afeni Shakur, to EverGreen Copyrights, a company that will help oversee the release of countless unreleased Shakhotchkes:

[The deal includes] more than 350 commercially released songs, countless poems and several albums’ worth of unrecorded material. Universal Music Publishing Group owns and will continue to administer the copyrights in the catalog…

EverGreen co-CEO David Schulhof said that several projects are in the works to promote the music. Preston Holmes (“Hustle & Flow,” “Marvin: The Life Story of Marvin Gaye”) and Karolyn Ali (“Tupac: Resurrection”) are producing a feature film, “Live 2 Tell,” from a script written by Shakur while in prison, and there also is an unscripted biopic on Tupac’s life. Mosaic Media Group is developing a Broadway musical featuring Shakur’s music, he adds.

Ooh, a musical! Can’t wait for that heart-warming reprise of “Hit ‘Em Up”, in which Shakur is surrounded by a circle of sure-footed B.I.G. look-alikes.
