Tonight’s American Idol finale, in addition to crowning the winner, is reportedly going to showcase a hodgepodge of music-related celebrities not seen since, well, the “Idol Gives Back” episode. In addition to the coronation of the newest Idol, viewers will allegedly witness:

• An appearance by Green Day (here’s hoping they aren’t saddled with “This Is My Now”); • Taylor Hicks, Joe Perry, and the top 12 Idols performing a medley of songs from Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band; • Appearances by Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Tony Bennett, and Smokey Robinson.

(There are also rumors floating around that Britney Spears, Beyonce, Steve Perry, and, um, Peter Noone will show up, although we have to be honest–we think that Noone is most likely to stumble onstage out of that group.)

Like last night’s competition episode, we’ll be liveblogging the whole shebang. Festivities start at 8 ET and run through this season’s “Idol” being announced to East Coast viewers–or at least the time when we fall over from the WTF-ness of the entire thing.
