In preparation for our liveblogging of the American Idol finale, we’ve been scouring the Internet for pre-show buzz on tonight’s big, huge, blowout show. In addition to the rampant confusion over which Perry–Steve or Joe–would be performing this evening, we found a few links that you should keep in mind while watching tonight’s show with us at 8 ET:

– Is anyone even going to watch the finale, given that the outcome was pretty much decided when a syrupy ballad won the songwriting competition? [Reality TV Magazine] – And that the finalists–including a Playmate-doted Sanjaya–apparently found out who the winner was at breakfast this morning? [Idolforums, reg. req.] – In an effort to scramble for answers, a Fox executive is claiming that viewership only seems to be down, and that’s because of DVRs. [reality blurred] – Tonight’s episode: A Fantasia-free affair–but Ruben will be in attendance. Hello, ratings spike! [TMZ]

– In case you were wondering why the Paula Abdul Out Of It Scale was temporarily retired last night, you may want to rewatch this clip from the show’s opening, which caused us to throw up our hands. [YouTube] – This analysis of “This Is My Now” was exhaustive (and exhausting), but we always appreciate a well-timed Suck.com reference. [Eat The Press] – “This Is My Now” co-writer Scott Krippayne has “killer songs” that are popular in the Christian music world. Perhaps this bodes well for a surprise appearance by the Smashing Pumpkins. [Thinks By Me] – Antonella and Haley are firmly in Camp Jordin, according to their MySpace pages. [TMZ]
