White Stripes Make Most Expensive Karaoke Video Of All Time

ickythum.jpgThe sing-along clip for “Icky Thump”–essentially a weird Michael Moore-Eli Roth fever dream–is over at Spinner. Amazingly, this has been up since midnight, and no one’s managed to make an easy-to-locate clip on YouTube. Oh, Internet! We’re so disappointed in you!

Video Premiere: ‘Icky Thump’ by the White Stripes [Spinner]

  1. Ted Striker

When did Meg start being reasonably attractive? Rawr.

  2. Looks like I picked the wrong day to quit sniffing glue

I love the Stripes, and I love this song, but Meg needs a new drumbeat. Soon.

  3. Halfwit

I felt iffy on this song when I heard the radio rip, but this “hi-fi” version with visuals really brings it to life. “Get Behind Me, Satan” gets no playtime in my house any more, but I’m still irrationally exuberant over this pending release.

And crgfyb — Meg’s drumming is as much part of the schtick as the color scheme.

@crgfyb: Think about it – if The Stripes suddenly busted out with expert drumming, the whole thing would collapse. You can’t stick ?uestlove or the like in there; the band works on the dichotomy of Jack’s furiously shredding the guitar over a vary simplistic, metronome-like drumbeat. That’s how it works, that’s why it works.

(Tell me that with the fancier drumming – and bass guitar, and rhythm guitar – The Raconteurs was anywhere near as satisfying. Yeah, I thought not.)

    Love it.

  6. Jon W

I thought this said “Michael Rother” instead of “Michael Moore-Eli Roth” and got excited.

  7. Chris Molanphy

This song contains the best line of menacing “La La La”s since System of a Down’s “B.Y.O.B.”
