The Vault: The Freshies Get In The Game

They weren’t as MTV-notorious as the Thompson Twins, but the Manchester pop band The Freshies got in on the vinyl video game action with The Biz, a music industry-themed game that allowed players to play at making it big as a band. That game was just one of many ways Freshies leader Chris Sievey tried to promote his band–he even came up with Frank Sidebottom, the band’s No. 1 fan, who actually outpaced the Freshies in popularity and who’s still available for appearances around the UK. It’s a shame, because “I’m In Love With A Girl On A Certain Megastore’s Check Out Desk,” which appears on the game’s soundtrack, is a fine pop tune that’s worth at least a few extra points on The Biz‘s “song quality” scale:
