One Last Tap On The Music-Blogosphere Glass

Jun 29th, 2007 // 19 Comments

dolphincat.jpgWell, that’s it: After nine months and 1,958 posts–only one-third of which were about R. Kelly and/or power pop–I’m finished with Idolator. I’m supposed to do an all-encompassing sign-off rant, but really–does the world need another navel-gazing music-blog post? It’s 74 degrees out and I have the new Ash album on my iPod. I’m going for a walk.

Before I leave, some real liner notes, for once: Thanks to Maura, a fantastic co-worker and cohort; I could not have done this site without her, and I have no doubt that she will make Idolator even better. Thanks to the commenters (well, most of them). Thanks to Noah for suggesting I take the job, Nick for giving it to me, and Lockhart, especially, for helping me out every day. Thanks to Rolling Stone for starting my sarcastic music-nerd career way back in 1994. Thanks to Matos for making Jackin’ Pop work, and thanks to Philadelphia’s now-defunct Bigger Lovers, who wrote this great song in 2002, unknowingly inspiring all those “Coulda-Shoulda-Woulda” posts:

The Bigger Lovers – Bought Your Ghost [MP3, link expired]

Most importantly, thanks to my fiancée, who has put up with more nonsense than you could imagine. If anyone needs me, I’ll be here.

  1. Feh Am Legend

    Good luck & God speed.

  2. Ned Raggett

    Best for the future!

  3. JedTheMime

Best of luck, Brian. And thanks for giving us music nerds somewhere to go besides RS to hear about those upcoming underground bands we all love so much.

Now I’m off to Sam Goody to check out this Pearl Jam group you wrote about.

  4. Fraid

What a long strange trip it’s been. Good luck, and Thanks Fr The Mmmrs!

  5. Audif Jackson Winters III

    Happy trails.

You had trouble finding a Pearl Jam album in your local music store in 1994? Where did you grow up, Uzbekistan?

  6. chrisb

Great work, Brian! Good luck to ya.

  7. MConnor

    @Audif Jackson Winters III:

I guess you missed the “Sarcastic” part of “sarcastic music-nerd career.”

  8. Tenno

^_^ make sure you send us all a postcard!

  9. Catbirdseat

I’ll miss you most of all, Scarecrow!

And props for going out on a Bigger Lovers tune.

  10. xtianrut

    Give ‘em hell, Brian.

Hey Maura, now that Brian’s gone, can we start saying “douche” again?

  11. Tenno

    No, it’s douche’

  12. Bob Loblaw

Thanks a lot, Brian. Good stuff.

  13. MTS

    Good night and good luck!

  14. capn_guthrie

Jesus loves prodigal sons. America bombs them. Idolater? well, good luck on your book.

  15. Audif Jackson Winters III

@MConnor: Ahhh. Yes. Now I get the joke.

  16. MJ

Good luck in everything, Brian. It was nice spending these months with you.

  17. Poubelle

Best of luck to you. I’m sure gonna miss your power-pop posts.

  18. Chris Molanphy

Very belated note (just back from a weekend away) to wish you good luck and godspeed, with the wedding and with life in general. Thanks for giving voice to fellow cranky Gen-Xers (someday I’ll share my own cranky 1994 RS letter with you).

  19. Faster

Well, after 10 months of relentlessly pitching you and Maura the new Philly music scene, you plug a Philly band…as your parting gift. We’ll take it. Good Luck, Brian! God help you, Maura.
