If Someone Makes You Go See Amy, You May Want To Say, “No, No, No”

The BBC sent its chart blogger to the Eden Project in Cornwall, a “green” theme park where British pop stars give shows; there, he caught a show where beehived singer/TRL favorite Amy Winehouse actually showed up, giving him the chance to see her many personalities, including Sweary Amy, Dirty-Protest Amy, and Not Really There Amy, who’s featured in the above video. After watching the clip–which features the least convincing reading of the line “I don’t ever want to drink again,” less enunciation than Fergie, and some weirdly triangulated crotch-grabbing–we figure the Dap-Kings must be counting down the hours until their reunion with Sharon Jones.

Is this sufficient proof for the Winehouse-train to be derailed? Seriously, that backlash cannot come soon enough. This clip makes her look/sound like she’s mentally handicapped, which, for all I know, she probably is.

    Advantage: Allen!

Jesus. I hope she gets things together by the time ACL rolls around.

I’ve gotta check my CD booklet (see, they come in handy after all), but I think the lyric is written as “I don’t never want to drink again.” Intentional double negative? Oh… those witty, self-destructive Brits.

    Also… how’ve I suddenly become Idolator’s resident Amy Winehouse fact-checker?

It sounds like she’s singing on 33 1/3 while the rest of the band play at 45 (that’s a vinyl reference for all you kids out there with your IPhones and what not)…

  6. mike a

The whole band looks vaguely embarrassed, like they’re wondering who let the park’s resident crackhead onstage.

Two Ace Frehley posts in one day!!

    I don’t get it….

BBC Radio 1 blogger’s succinct summary of the truth about/trouble with of Amy:

“The terrible irony is that people love Amy for being emotionally raw in her work, but actually being around someone who is that emotionally raw while AT work is pretty uncomfortable.”

    Quite funny.

    @Jupiter8:
Based on the two youtube clips posted today, Ace and Amy may be morphing into the same person.

Dear me, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings are soon coming to my town. I may have to go and see if I can get some juicy pull quotes.

That clip is just sad – it’s like she got her mouth frozen at the dentist before coming onstage.

Then again, what should we expect from someone whose favourite drink, the rickstasy, is 3 parts vodka, 1 part Bailey’s Irish Cream, 1 part Southern Comfort, and 1 part banana liquor, served over ice in a tall glass.

I get a hangover just thinking about it.

The band backing Winehouse above isn’t the Dap-Kings but is instead her Brit-backing band. The Dap-Kings can actually step together and their guitar player – the venerable Tommy “TNT” Brenneck – would never play such awful awful chords…

I saw Winehouses at the taping for MTV’s “45th at Night” series, and it was HEINOUS. She’d stop four seconds into each song and have to start over, again and again and again, before finally mumbling her way through — only to request to do it over once she’d finished. Her band definitely looked embarassed. MTV only made the whole thing more painful by reneging on the promise of 3 drinks apiece for the audience. If there was ever a time I needed some booze in me…

Does Amy get electro-shock therapy before coming on stage or something?

  17. Anonymous

For the love of all that is holy, Amy, go back on the Lithium.

  18. Falconfire

I seriously dont get why people like her. She looks like trash and sings terrible. Anyone from the 20′s-60′s could mop the floor with this tard.

    more like:

“The terrible irony is that people confuse Amy’s substance abuse problem for some kind of artistic integrity, when in fact her music sounds as slick, hollow, and manufactured as anything by Avril Lavigne.”
