Woebot Throws a Black Riot

A typically insightful and erudite, if also typically contentious, rundown of the early discography of late-’80s/early-’90s house music maestro Todd Terry is at Woebot. If you, like your Idolator editors, are obsessed with the point where Latin freestyle becomes house, Todd is essential listening, music that can still cold rock a party full of wallflowers two decades after its original release. No MP3s, sadly, as is Woebot proprietor Matt Ingram’s wont, but worth reading for the color commentary (and the colorful sleeves) alone. For your A/V fix, here’s a weirdly hypnotic YouTube clip of a turntable rotating while Todd’s eternal “Can U Party?” blares in the background. And, uh, that’s it. It’s like the “Bastards of Young” video, except no one smashes up the turntable at the end.
