cherrpie.jpgJani Lane on “Cherry Pie,” a.k.a. “another song with innuendoes I didn’t get until long after I first heard it”: “I give a lot of credit to “Cherry Pie”. It has stood the test of time. It’s a little catchy. It’s a little tongue-in-cheek. It is probably not the most complicated song I have ever written but to write a song that is used as a measuring stick for a genre of music.” Heh, heh, he said “stick.” [Sleaze Roxx]

Is Sleaze Roxx the new Metal Sludge? I’m all for that.

I heard that the label made him write that song, it took like 10 minutes or something. He didn’t like it and neither did the band but they were forced to put it on the record and everyone was so surprised at how well it did.

That’s one of the songs that ruined Hair Metal. Them, and that Winger stuff. Too much syrup, not enough rock. Take the blaze out of the guitars, and it’s not metal anymore. It’s like putting Coke in your liquor. Sure, people do it, but it’s not hard anymore!

@DeeJayQueue: Yeah, agreed — I thought Lane had been renouncing “Cherry Pie” ever since grunge killed them as a label-demanded, gun-to-the-head single. I saw him repeat it on VH1′s metal documentary a few months ago, in fact. It’s even repeated at Wikipedia.

So maybe Lane is suddenly retracting because he thinks he’s being too hard on a profitable copyright?!
