After an initially positive response, ABC is one again cooking up music video clip shows to advertise its popular shows, including Grey’s Anatomy, Ugly Betty, and others, with artists like Mika and Sean Kingston picking up where last season’s edgy contributions from the Fray and Snow Patrol left off:

In the case of “Housewives,” ABC produced a music video to reggae youngster Sean Kingston’s chart-topping “Beautiful Girls.” It wove clips from all the past seasons of the suburban soap with footage from the upcoming season and shots from Kingston’s own music video. It premiered July 27 and is available on ABC.com.

Wait, clips from a widely known piece of pop culture edited to a widely known pop hit? Is it just me, or does this sound like ABC hit on the (kinda genius) idea of putting together some very slick (and probably not too expensive) versions of the kind of YouTube tribute videos that Idolator’s Kate Richardson tracks down every week? At least writers aren’t the only creative types soon to be replaced by eager high school kids with computer access.
