Dear Wikipedia Users: You Can Now Hear Edie Brickell At A Marshall’s Near You

Yesterday’s call to seek out Wikipedia-editing employees at major labels using the IP scanner Wikipedia Scanner inspired one intrepid reader to find the following Master P-related edit: “In an entry about the song “Sexual Healing,” someone from Sony BMG changed the description of Master P’s ‘Ghetto D’ from ‘epic album’ to ‘magnum opus.’ They also added the following description: [Master P]]’s 1997 [[magnum opus]] ‘[[Ghetto D]]’ included a song called ‘Bourbons and Lacs’ that used the music and the melody to create a wonderfully soulful celebration of the lives of playas in the Big Easy. ‘Bourbons and Lacs’ caps off the album perfectly, leaving the listener with a sense of comfort after a thrilling ride through the steets of the Dirty South with the Colonel himself.”

Ah, PR departments. You can smell their misuse of adjectives a mile away! But wait–he found more, including Muzak playlist highlights and the rejection of “teh suck” as a viable musical genre:

From Universal Music Group’s IP block:

83502410 From the Entry on the Pussycat Dolls, someone removed the following text: At the [[SXSW]] music conference in 2006, Interscope lawyer Darryl Franklin said, during a panel discussion, that the contract with the group is unique in that its members are actually salaried employees of the record label and, by design, completely interchangeable. This means that in addition to CD sales, the label also controls merchandise, web sites and all other commercial aspects of the group and their income, excluding song

85365239 From the entry on Edie Brickell, someone added the following item to the “Trivia” section: The hit “What I Am” is one of the most frequently played songs at Marshalls department store locations.

86858030 From the entry on a band called “I Heard A Voice,” someone changed the genre from “teh suck” to “rock”

98072595 From the entry on Snow Patrol, someone change the text from As of [[26 November]] [[2006]], ”Eyes Open” was the UK’s best-selling album of the year, selling 1.2 million copies. By contrast, as of [[27 December]] [[2006]], the album, or any released singles, have yet to be designated with either a platinum or gold certification in the U.S. This comes as quite a surprise, considering the consistantly strong sales of the album (maintaining a spot in the upper quarter of the Billboard 200 list for over 15 weeks), the popularity of the single “[[Chasing Cars]]”, and the standing as one of [[iTunes]]’ top downloaded albums and songs of the year.

From Warner Music Group’s IP Block:

For some reason, a huge percentage of Warner’s wikipedia edits are related to Reba McEntire. Here’s one (of about twenty):

75292918 Someone added the following text to Reba MciEntire’s entry: Renowned for her flashy stage performances, she was the first woman to have the highest grossing concert tour in country music. In 1994 and 1995, her stage show outgrossed all other country artists, and her 1997 package tour with [[Brooks & Dunn]] was the largest grossing tour in country music history at the time. Recently however, she has scaled back the production, playing more intimate venues and focusing more on the music than the stage production. During the summer of 2006, McEntire signed an exclusive engagement performing at the [[Las Vegas Hilton]]. Over six non-consecutive weeks, she will perform for the fans traveling to see her for the first time in her career.

144481593 This is a good one. Some jokester had changed Tom Petty’s wikipedia entry to begin: ”’Thomas “Tom” Earl Petty”’ (born [[October 20]],[[1950]]) is a child rapist.

someone from Warner Music changed it to:

”’Thomas “Tom” Earl Petty”’ (born [[October 20]],[[1950]]) is a singer and guitarist.

An important distinction, that. Spotted more? Let us know.
