Aveo Turns Up The Volume On Its MySpace Page

Back in this site’s early days, I wrote a Coulda-Shoulda-Woulda Files post about Aveo, a short-lived Seattle band who put out two absolutely epic albums of soaring rock that recalled the best things about Perfect From Now On-era Built To Spill and was fronted by a singer that could croon like no one else. Aveo’s two albums, Bridge To The Northern Lights and Battery, are still pretty astonishing listening, and I really wish that the band hadn’t missed the Internet-buzz era by a hair, if only because maybe we’d have seen more music from it.

Anyway, when I wrote that post about them 10 months ago, the band’s MySpace page had gone dormant. Last night, though, while casting about for a new song to embed into my profile (oh, hush) I found that Aveo had–finally!–cleaned up its presence on the social-networking site, adding a few choice cuts from its catalog for streaming and download. (There are also a few MP3s on the band’s page at Barsuk Records.) Perhaps this means that they’re due for a comeback (last login 9/15/07!), though I won’t get my hopes up too high. In any case, you should head over there and download the closing track on Bridge, “Collapsing Plateaus,” immediately, because it fits the profile of the “autumn song”–crashing, bittersweet, focused on decay–to a tee. (And yes, I embedded it in my profile. Shut up.)
