Celine Dion Is Really Going For This “Edgy” Thing

The title track off Celine Dion’s feathered and blown-out Taking Chances is a midtempo, acoustic guitar-heavy ballad that was penned by Kara DioGuardi and Dave Stewart and that, like her version of Heart’s “Alone,” holds back on the fist-to-chest moments. And you have to at least muster a bit of respect for the video, which casts aside Dion’s past music-video excesses in favor of bringing together elements of Kanye West’s clip for “Stronger” and a Metroid-like twist–and placing them in Vegas, so as to effectively cross-promote her soon-to-be-closing Caesars Palace extravaganza. Look into her eyes and feel that synergy, baby.
