Is someone at the music-database company Gracenote going really heavy on the client-dinner spending? I only ask because the company’s made two high-profile deals to use its lyrics database on music sites in the past few days, although maybe said deals are just a portent of a future where “editing music-related content” actually means “making sure that the lyrics to ‘Hate That I Love You’ are fully translated into text-message-speak.”

Anyway, MTV–following the lead of Don’t Forget The Lyrics, The Singing Bee, and AOL–announced today that it’s using the company’s lyric database as the backbone for shows, mobile offerings, and Internet features based on “the universal appeal of music lyrics.” And one of the ways MTV’s networks will harness that appeal is by resurrecting the old favorite Name That Tune, although we’re guessing that Donny Osmond won’t sign on as host.
