Outraged Aaliyah Fans Take To The Internet To Stop Beyonce

Nov 15th, 2007 // 10 Comments

It’s been six years since Timbaland muse/former R. Kelly spouse Aaliyah died in a plane crash, and apparently that mourning period is enough time for Beyonce to look into covering her songs. A report that the House Of Dereon’s chief resident was thinking about taking a break from being in every commercial on TV and putting her melismatic spin on “One In A Million” so outraged London resident Sherenne Williams, she went on Facebook and started the group Stop Beyonce From Covering Aaliyah’s One In A Million!!! (From the “about” section: “Beyonce want’s to cover One in a Million!! I am sorry she is a decent singer but this is Aaliyah’s tune everyone knows it… Beyonce WILL RUIN IT!!!”) And it now has almost 7,200 members.

Unfortunately, some of those members are Beyonce fans who are freaking out that their heroine is being dissed by these Facebook upstarts! And to them, Sherenne has an even more exclamation-point-and-caps-filled message:

I am sick and tired of you Beyonce fans complaining!

The point is that song is Aaliyah’s NO-ONE I REPEAT NO-ONE should cover it!

She has been dead for what 6 years now and in that time everyone has managed not to touch her music!

Marvin Gaye Let’s get it on (untouched)
Gerald Levert (untouched)
Bob Marley I don’t have to wait in vain for your love (untouched)
Cheryl Lynn Encore (untouched)
Melissa Morgan Fool’s Paradise (untouched)
Louisa Marx’s Six Street (untouched)
Dennis Brown Studio 1 album (untouched)

I will ask you a question

Do you know who sang the original to Key to the world? Bet you do not know,

I will tell you why BECAUSE SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE COVERED IT! THAT IS WHY

I bet you are the same people who think Ashanti Foolish Ripped off Biggies Tune WELL YOUR WRONG biggie RIPPED OFF El debarge! P-diddy rips of everyone’s tunes with his sampling check it if you do not believe me!

Yeah And Juicy was Not biggies either that was Mary Jane girls NO NOT Mary J Blige! In addition, All Night Long was Mary Jane Girls As well but Because Mary J blige covered it PEOPLE ASSUME that was her song! There for the ORIGINAL SONG/ARTIST does not get credit for it!

I HOPE YOU ARE GETTING MY POINT NOW!

I kind of hope they aren’t, if only because I want her to show more examples of songs that have allegedly never been ruined by bad cover versions. In caps!

I guess Sonic Death Monkey/Barry Jive and his Uptown Five’s cover of “Let’s Get It On” doesn’t count. Nor should it, I suppose…

@The Notorious T: If Laura’s bourgeois lawyer friends can’t handle it, fuck ‘em. Let em riot.

  9. Anonymous

I’ve always liked Annie Lennox’s version of “Waiting In Vain,” but I know Bob Marley wrote it. I’m so confused.
