A.R. Kane Gets Swallowed By The Green Haze (And VHS Tape Decay)
Turn of the ’80s/’90s Brit noisedreamgaze duo A.R. Kane is near the top of the priorities list when it comes to obsessively combing the Internet periodically checking for recently uploaded videos, wherever they may be lurking. And every time, YouTube et al have disappointed. Until today! A semi-acoustic, indie-dub slow jam flecked with tremolo teardrops and eerie whistling feedback, “Green Haze Daze” was released on the band’s Love-Sick EP between 1988’s similarly lovestoned 69 and 1989’s i, where chilled club rat rhythms meet the tender side of shoegaze. While the video is typical timebound-and-no-budget 120 Minutes material–thrill to the shaky-cam cuts between listlessly strumming band members against a white background–I’m just glad to be able to post a A.R. Kane tune to Idolator (I know at least a few other fans are lurking out there), and the godawful transfer might even add a little zoning-out-while-looking-at-the-aquarium charm befitting the wavy, woozy music.
