The news that brilliant smoked-out jokester MC Devin The Dude is leaving his longtime record label Rap-A-Lot for greener (yuk yuk) pastures is the perfect opportunity to post the video for 2002’s still great “Lacville ’79,” a slow rolling itinerary of the indignities the cash-strapped Devin faces while pushing his four-wheeled lemon around Houston with the radiator dragging behind, a beloved junk heap that “needs some shocks on the back/ Needs some work on my breaks/ My passenger side window, sometimes it just don’t wanna raise.” Hopefully one of the “several offers on the table for label situations” will mean that Devin will be able to afford to relieve any future internal combustion woes, provided the advance doesn’t wind up as roaches in his ashtray.
