Chavez Hears The Roar Of The (Possibly Imaginary) Crowd

Because it’s Friday afternoon, Maura’s left me to fend for myself a la Don’t Tell Mom The Babysitters Dead (complete with sink full of unwashed dishes), and the fact that it’s the kind of week where this starts looking like a juicy story, it’s time to reach for that all-purpose space-filler: songs I loved in college. But judging by how many 2006 Jackin’ Pop ballots Chavez appeared on (including mine) thanks to their complete discographical compilation Better Days Will Haunt You, the knotty ’90s New York indie rockers are still widely beloved (at least by rock critics) for records like the tender “The Unreal Is Here,” a slightly anomalous entry in their all-killer catalog with a big ol’ wink of a video that captures their brief heyday of stadium-hopping and hobnobbing on choppers with current and future Hollywood celebs located on lists b through z. Wait, wait…could these be the “arena rockers” Courtney Love was talking about? [YouTube]
