amtrak.jpgAs an admitted Amtrak aficionado, I must admit that my curiosity was piqued by the announcement that the railway and Goldenvoice would pair up to shuttle campers back and forth between Los Angeles’ Union Station and Coachella before and after the festival last month. According to Billboard, the train will only be open to those people who have paid for a three-day camping pass, but part of me wants to try and lobby Amtrak to let me ride in exchange for all of my Amtrak Guest Rewards points, just so I can watch the desert scenery roll by. It’d be a lot more entertaining than a Roger Waters set, I’ll tell you that. [Billboard.biz / Photo: ocean yamaha]

That is a really sharp idea, and as a regular train/Metrolink traveller myself it almost makes me want to go. Almost.

If Peak Oil keeps playing out like I think it is, get ready for lots more train rides in your future.
