The announcement of this year’s Lollapalooza lineup is scheduled for April 7, but unsurprisingly, the message-board speculation has been fast and fierce. Bands that have already confirmed their appearance include Bloc Party, Wilco, Nine Inch Nails, and Dierks Bentley, but what of the big surprises scheduled for the announcement? Well, the Daily Swarm combed through the lineup-speculation threads on the official Lolla message boards so we didn’t have to, and they found a post by a Cyrus family insider claiming that Hannah Montana would absolutely, definitely, 100% for sure be playing:
I know a lot of people in the music industry. My uncle is friends with Miley Cyrus’s father. And I asked him to ask about Lollapalooza. Miley’s father has confirmed she will be the Saturday headliner opposite NIN.
Let’s look at the reasons why this rumor may or may not be true:
1. In a summer overbooked with festivals, booking the most popular attraction of last year’s touring circuit would ensure that Lolla would sell out its entire supply of tickets–never mind how a Miley appearance would goose the fortunes of “secondary market” sites like StubHub.
2. MRC/HM booking will give the kids of alternadads and alternamoms something more age-appropriate to hear while Trent Reznor sings about fucking people animal-style.
3. Booking Miley will certainly differentiate Lolla from this summer’s endless parade of Radiohead/Jack Johnson-headlined festivals.
1. Oh, come on, you guys. It’s an Internet message board thread designed to rile people up. Although I wouldn’t be too surprised if this “news” didn’t show up on Us‘ site sometime after the lineup is announced.
