Gavin DeGraw and Wayne Isham Hope People Don’t Remember The Early ’90s

No one would blame prolific music video director Wayne Isham for taking the easy way out once in a while. Having worked on literally hundreds of videos must occasionally tap you creatively, and directing Britney Spears’ video for “Piece of Me” likely qualifies him for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder workman’s comp. Still, doesn’t this video for Gavin DeGraw’s “In Love With A Girl” seem lifted a bit from 1991′s Career Opportunities just a little? (Warning: If you intend to check the video out, please remember to turn the sound down. It’s not worth having to hear the song to investigate further.)

That being said, who hasn’t dreamed of romping around Wal-Mart with a gorgeous cashier with a wild streak? (Of course, that would require finding a Wal-Mart that actually closes, or a cashier with the majority of her teeth around here, but I’m sure there’s a location with checkout girls who work the third shift after modeling all day somewhere in the area.) For me, personally, the Gondry video for Kanye’s “Heard ‘Em Say” is still the pinnacle of this particular genre. But here is one of the strangest fan video combinations I’ve personally seen… Sweden’s Kent combined with dreamy footage of a pre-Rocketeer Jennifer Connolly:

Look, that freeze frame on McGraw there with that look on his face — just, no.

  2. Dan Gibson

That was an unfortunate side effect to the story. I apologize.

What a disappointing reveal. I was expecting someone surprising when the hood came down. And when I saw they guy trying on the big sunglasses, I was holding out hope that we would find out that he was actually the unibomber.

fyi — the girl is Kristen from Laguna Beach.
