World’s Most Profitable Cover Act Hits The Road

kidzbop13.jpgWith sales of ten million discs over their thirteen volumes, there are few music acts more profitable these days than the incredible, anonymous parade of voices known as Kidz Bop. Just like last year, the Kidz are hitting the road, including a somewhat odd appearance at UCLA’s Royce Hall. Below the cut, a preview of what you’re in store for: a lead singer who must be wondering if dropping out of college was the best idea, and a stirring moment previously hidden in all the noise by those hacks in the All-American Rejects. If you’re finding those Jonas Brothers just a bit too original, the dates are down there as well.

Here are the dates (noticeably lacking an appearance in Phoenix…hello, Kidz Bop overlords!)

For good measure, here’s everyone’s favorite Kidz Bop clip, “Since U Been Gone”:

    Why?

Why did it look like a Chuck-e-cheeze band was playing the instruments on that ‘Since U Been Gone’?

Why does Edmonton get 6 dates?

Why are parents buying in to this?

Why did I just sit through this? (That’s easy…I’m at work!)

    Ugh…

  • Poubelle

That boy in the first one suddenly made me really appreciate Tyson Ritter’s skills as a vocalist. Seriously, that kid was flat in more than one way. Was he just there to make the little blonde soloist look better?

  • Audif Jackson Winters III

I find the date at the 9:30 club in D.C. way stranger than Royce Hall at UCLA. Where are the kids going to sit?

  • Rob Murphy

Holy crap! They’re playing the 9:30 Club???

Hey parents of the Nation’s Capital! Come celebrate America’s 232d Birthday with KIDZ BOP at the 9:30 Club! Sure, we’ve hosted recent shows by X, The Raconteurs, Filter, Rilo Kiley, Jakob Dylan, The Breeders, Battles, and The Butthole Surfers, but we’re FAMILY-FRIENDLY, too!

  • Clevertrousers

Maybe Kidz Bop is planning on doing an homage to DC hardcore? I can’t wait for the “Big Takeover/Seeing Red/Lie Cheat and Steal” medley… all the ‘tweens will be moshing with X’s on their hands just like back in the day on F Street… an old punk can dream, right?

  • noamjamski

@Rob Murphy: With their recent affiliation with School of Rock, sadly Butthole Surfers really are now family friendly.

  • Clevertrousers

@noamjamski: Because nothing says “family” like dropping acid and listening to Locust Abortion Technician.

I actually reviewed this tour last summer and, despite the cheapo production values, it was actually pretty fun.

Fun for little, little kids, anyway. While the crowd was kind of shy at first, the show ended with dozens of kids crowding around the front of the stage, dancing and singing without a trace of self-consciousness. Which, you know, is more than you can say about a Vampire Weekend gig.

  • Clevertrousers

@raihala: So like a Dan Zanes show, but for children?

When is the Kids Bop Version of “Touch My Body” coming out?

What I really want to know is…how do you get the gig to be in the Kidz Bop touring band?
