The Irresistable Lure Of Swedish Dance Pop

Although the appearance of Will.I.Am nearly ruined my entire Radio 1 Chart Show experience on Sunday, I couldn’t help but be cheered today by the memory of September’s appearance at number nine with “Cry For You.”

There’s absolutely nothing to this song, which, to me, is part of its charm. It features the sort of faceless dance production that Sweden seems to have factories for, complete with bubbly beats and a big soaring chorus. The track seems to catch on to two or three top 40 stations on this side of the Atlantic every month, before dropping off the playlist (enjoy it while it lasts, KNOU in Indianapolis), which diminishes the prospects of a nationwide summer smash for September, but one can still hope. At very least, I’m sure I’ll be hearing this track added to the lite techno soundtrack of my local sushi bar sometime next year.
