Don’t Take The Organ Out Of The Ballgame

To balance out the depressing nature of today, here’s an article about Lambert Bartak, the 89-year-old organist at Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, Neb., which has hosted the College World Series since 1950. Of course, a lot of the story is about how organs at baseball stadiums are a dying breed, and how the new stadium in Omaha, which is set to open in 2011, will probably dispose of the organ tradition because, as Bartak puts it, “It wouldn’t fit in the modern age.” Why can’t we have nice things, everybody? (Also, does anyone know if Citi Field is going to have an organ? There’s something about the disconnected “Blister In The Sun” chords that makes Mets games fun, even this season.)
