The Academy Is… Not Wasting Much Time (Or Many Words)

tai.jpg It’s probably no surprise that the forthcoming album by bandom faves The Academy Is…, Fast Times At Barrington High, is one of the more anticipated late-summer releases around these parts. The band released “About A Girl” to its MySpace page earlier this week, and between this and that new Alphabeat single and the fact that there’s more music from both Ne-Yo and Lloyd on the horizon, I’m starting to think that maybe our summer jam tournament of last month needs some sort of late-season sequel. (This time, it counts!) “About A Girl” is a cute, anthemic breakup track that’s clearly trying to pick up where Jimmy Eat World left off with its run of singles from its self-titled album, and its charms are working well enough to give me a hellish case of senioritis on this summery day. You mean Bleed American, right?

I shall never refer to it by the other name!

hoping against hope for a nirvana cover…
    got a used cover.
    dammit.

@seth_shellhouse: i really don’t think covering nirvana would be a good look for this particular band.

  4. Rob Murphy

    Sold!

And thank goodness it’s not a Nirvana cover…

I like their first two albums. They are a singles band though- both albums get incredibly tedious.

Speaking of bandom, we need to revisit the Journey slash fiction. Make it happen, Maura!

  7. Al Shipley

Yes, please, another summer jam tournament, to wash off the stench of Tyga.

    agreed.
