The Barenaked Ladies Get A Little More Rock And Roll

Quirky-dull Canadian pop act the Barenaked Ladies has become somewhat well-known over the last decade and a half–but I doubt anyone would have guessed that a dark side lurked under their squeaky-clean exterior. Steven Page, the less Rappy Wordinghood of the band’s two singers, was arrested on Friday for possession of a controlled substance in Syracuse, N.Y. Now, if you’re like me, your immediate assumption is that Steven got caught with a recreational amount of marijuana. This is true, but not the whole story: He was also found with two women and a significant amount of cocaine. Although this would seem to make their recently released children’s album, on which Page sings about having a bad day, a more difficult sell, the band clearly has enough material to fill at least one chapter of its own Hammer of the Gods.
