Thanks to Ragandboneshop seeing through the title of Metallica’s Death Magnetic and realizing that, despite what James Hetfield might think, the fact that it could be anagrammed as “Can It, Megadeth” says more about the band’s intention than any mumbo-jumbo about Layne Staley. What else could the 13 letters that comprise Death Magnetic reveal about themes we should expect from the forthcoming album? Ten possible ideas below the cut.

Midget, Cane, Hat Perhaps a Michigan J. Frog homage is a “hidden track”?

Met Date. Aching. A sign that “The Unforgiven III” might be a little more emo than its predecessors.

Might Dance, Eat Written underneath the “BRB” on a Post-It note that Lars put up on the studio wall before heading out into the daytime.

Damage Itch Ten This was actually one of the final contenders, until James realized that it sounded a bit too much like a tagline for an athlete’s-foot spray.

Menaced Hag Tit They can still be scary!

Machete Dating See?

Dig That Menace Now it’s a Nick Cave album!

Hated Net Magic Well, it’s not entirely untrue.

Change Tamed It Oh, snap.

Come up with your own. It’s way more entertaining than working, I find.
